Preview
Madrid arrive on the back of a 1-0 win over Villarreal on matchday 8 and a comeback in Rome (4-3) in the Champions League. No new injuries after Rome: the squad rested on Thursday and returned to training on Friday at Valdebebas.
The key absentees and the suspension: Vinícius CANNOT play. The official ban is four LaLiga matches — two for pulling a Villarreal player’s hair and two for protesting to the referee: he misses Sevilla, the Clásico on 25 October, Racing and Valencia, with a return expected against Celta. On Friday 16 the Appeals Committee dismissed Real Madrid’s appeal and upheld the four matches, so the absence is definitive barring an extraordinary precautionary measure. Éder Militão is back training with the group but is also ruled out for this match. Rodrygo and Raúl Asencio remain out. Mendy is training with the group but lacks match rhythm. Dean Huijsen IS available: he served his suspension against Villarreal and was already called up for Roma. The club also had Konaté’s yellow card from the Villarreal match rescinded.
Sevilla arrive fifth, on 14 points, after a 3-3 draw away to Levante on matchday 8, and unbeaten on the road. Confirmed absences: Isaac Romero (suspended), Jon Guridi, Miguel Sierra (undergoing surgery, around three months), Marcao and Iker Muñoz. Doubt: Kochorashvili, who will be tested in Saturday’s session. Back: Lucas Stassin is already training with the group and is available.
The head-to-head record is all white: both of last season’s meetings went Madrid’s way, 2-0 at the Bernabéu and 0-1 at the Pizjuán.
Probable XI (press, unconfirmed): Courtois; Trent Alexander-Arnold, Konaté, Rüdiger, Álvaro Carreras; Tchouaméni, Valverde; Güler, Bellingham, Diomande; Mbappé. Diomande covers Vinícius’s absence on the left, and Huijsen can return to the back line for Rüdiger.
The key point: it is the last LaLiga match before the Clásico and comes amid a run of five matches in fifteen days (Villarreal, Roma, Sevilla, Leipzig and Barça): manage the workload without dropping points at home and solve the imbalance on the left without Vinícius.
